Centralia Fire

In May 1962, the citizens of Centralia, Pennsylvania hired a group of volunteer firefighters to clean up the town's landfill. By "landfill" we mean "the abandoned mine where they stuffed their trash" and by "clean up" we mean "set on f***ing fire." (Cracked Magazine)

There are some dumb ass morons out there, as the boys (and possibly girls) at a certain website will tell you.

The Centralia fires, set just over 40 years ago, ARE STILL BURNING, and probably WILL FOR ANTOHER 100 YEARS!

Another tragic problem, is that the mines streched under all of the town,and as a result of the fire, structural istability threatened to destroy the whole town, and caused massive sinkholes and cracks to appear, and poisonous fumes and smoke spew up from the depths of this man made heck.

And nobody gave a flying S***.

The toxic fumes killed seven people, and caused hundreds of health problems in children, elderly, and even healthy adults.

Their only real cause for concern was about ten years later, when the local petrol pumps reached almost 70 degrees. Near boling.

And nobody gave a fling S*** then.

Another incident was when a boy was almost killed when his gradmothers backyard suddenly fell about ten meters, and flames and soot spewed up.

Then they took notice.

The town emptied nearly over night, as people decided that it was getting way too dangerous even for them. Except for about a thousand people.

A thousand people.
